This weekend Thom, Mike, Flash, Joey D., Josh, the Monster and Belov deployed to Luray, Virginia for VWS’ first participation in the ToPC . It wasn’t the best of times and it wasn’t the worst of times. It was instead amateur bike racing in all of its brilliant imperfect glory – chaotic, messy and forever humbling. It was a weekend about a road race shared with road kill, an inventive time trial and a wickedly insane crit.
It was a weekend filled with pain – some enjoyed, some not – some self-inflicted, some not. It was a weekend filled with coffee, embrocation, a little rain, lost skin, shredded legs and not enough beer. It was a weekend shared with great competitors and the best teammates. It was a weekend of great expectations filled with pointless (but requisite) winging, self-doubt, hope, failure and redemption…and of course more PAIN.
For the VWS Race Team, ToPC was also about change, transition and grinding out results. At ToPC the Monster road his first Cat 3 race on his new Venge, and Thom rode his last Cat 4 race on his way to join the 3s – while shredding his favorite skin suit in the process.
At the end of the day Belov was humbled to take 4th in the GC giving VWS its 6th podium in as many races in the young 2013 road season. VWS wants to thank Chris Gould, Page Valley Cycling, WWVC Racing and the town of Luray for an outstanding weekend of racing.
